Bath???? Nak mandi ker??? Tak... Kali ni Editor nak berkongsi dengan pembaca akan keindahan dan ketenangan sebuah bandar kecil yg terletak di Somerset, kira-kira 156km dari barat London.

City of Bath nie asalnya dibuka untuk tujuan SPA oleh orang-orang Roman pada zaman dahulu. Lokasi City of Bath sangat menarik kerana dikelilingi dengan bukit-bukit dan orang-orang Roman telah membina kuil-kuil mereka di kawasan bukit ini. Manakala kolam-kolam SPA pula, mereka bina di lembah Sungai Avon yg berhampiran dengan sumber mata air panas.

Kesan dan pengaruh Romans masih dapat kelihatan pada senibina bandar nie walaupun telah dimodenkan dan bandar ini juga telah diisytiharkan sebagai salah satu English Heritage.

Dari Stonehenge, Editor nak bawa pembaca semua ke beberapa lagi tempat yg tak kurang dengan sejarahnya. Antaranya Old Sarum, Salisbury Cathedral dan Farleigh Hungerford Castle, semua nie masih lagi terletak di bahagian South West England.

Old Sarum is the site of the earliest settlement of Salisbury in England. The great earthwork of Old Sarum stands near Salisbury on the edge of Wiltshire's chalk plains. Its mighty ramparts were raised in about 500 BC by Iron Age peoples, and later occupied by the Romans, the Saxons and most importantly, the Normans.

A Norman castle was built on the inner mound and joined soon afterwards by a royal palace. Later, a new town occupied much of the great earthwork, complete with a noble new Norman cathedral.

But Norman Sarum was not destined to thrive. Soldiers and priest quarrelled and life on the almost waterless hilltop became intolerable. The solution was a move downhill to a new settlement now known as Salisbury, where a new cathedral was founded.

Thereafter Old Sarum went into steep decline. Its cathedral was demolished and its castle was eventually abandoned and the materials was sold by King Henry VII.

That's the history of Old Sarum...Now our journey continue to The New Sarum or Salisbury.

As response to deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military at Old Sarum, the decision was taken to resite the cathedral and bishopric was moved to its present place in Salisbury.

Lagend has it that, the Bishop of Old Sarum shot an arrow in the direction he would build the cathedral, the arrow hit a deer and the deer finally died in the place where Salisbury Cathedral is now.

Salisbury Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral, considered one of the leading examples of Early English architecture.

We left Salisbury and its history behind. Now, I would like to take you to Somerset to Farleigh Hungerford Castle.
Of course every place has its own story. So has Farleigh Castle. Farleigh Hungerford was begun in 1370s by Sir Thomas Hungerford,Speaker of the Commons, and extended in the 15th century by his son Walter, Lord Hungerford, distinguished soldier and statesman.

The colourful Hungerford family included 2 members executed during the Wars of Roses and another who imprisoned his wife here for 4 years, beheaded by Henry VIII. A Tudor Lady Hungerford burnt her murdered husband's body in the castle's oven...huhhh!!!! such a story!

The remains of their fortified mansion include 2 tall corner towers and a complete castle chapel, crowded with family monuments and bedecked with paintings. In the chapel's crypt the coffins of many Hungerfords are still visible, several with attached 'death marks'.

Hari ke-3 di England, selepas bersarapan di hotel, kami mula mengorak langkah menuju ke Wiltshire. Wiltshire terletak di bahagian South West of England. Tempat pertama yg kami tuju di Wiltshire ialah Stonehenge, one of the seven wonders dan menjadi English Heritage since 1986 for their outstanding prehistoric monument from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age periods.

Bercerita sedikit tentang Stonehenge nie,walaupun ramai yg dah tahu. Batu yg seberat 40 tan nie dipercayai telah berada di atas Bukit Salisbury sejak 5000 tahun yg dulu.

Stonehenge became the focal point of a landscape filled with prehistoric ceremonial and burial structures.The great and ancient stone circle of Stonehenge is unique,an exceptional survival from prehistoric culture. It is aligned with the rising and setting of the sun at the solstices, but its exact purpose remains a mystery!

Can't tell it more how impressed I am with this wonder and the natures beauty surrounding it. Let's take a peak!

PERRRGGHHHH!!!!!! Bukan setakat dah bersawang tapi dah bercendawan, berkulat dan dah nak roboh dah pun...Setahun rupanyer blog nie tak diaktifkan. Tak per lepas nie Editor akan cas bateri blog nie supaya ia tak akan malap lagi....hehehe...Insyaallah.

Untuk menghiasi Edisi pertama bagi tahun 2011 nie, Editor ingin membawa pembaca semua menikmati beberapa tempat menarik yg sempat Editor sekeluarga jelajah pada bulan April yg lalu, ENGLAND!

Hari pertama di England hanya merayap sekitar Kota London...
